Trump Rejects Israel’s Plans to Annex West Bank
"A stable West Bank keeps Israel secure and is in line with this administration’s goal to achieve peace in the region," a White House official said, according to statements shared on the social media platform X.
Trump had previously affirmed that he would not permit Israel to annex the occupied territory.
Recently, Israel’s security cabinet approved several measures affecting West Bank governance.
These include overturning a law that prohibited the sale of Palestinian land to Jewish individuals, making land ownership records publicly accessible, and transferring the authority to grant building permits in a Hebron settlement bloc from the Palestinian municipality to Israel’s civil administration.
The new policies also increase Israeli supervision in areas designated as Area A and Area B, citing alleged breaches such as unlicensed construction, water management issues, and damage to archaeological and environmental sites.
Over the last three years, the Israeli authorities have examined proposals for constructing approximately 50,000 settlement units in the West Bank, alongside confiscating roughly 60,000 dunams (14,826 acres) of land during the conflict.
In a landmark ruling in July 2024, the International Court of Justice deemed Israel’s occupation of Palestinian lands illegal and called for the removal of all settlements in both the West Bank and East Jerusalem, as stated by reports.
